Stream Remediation

Current River Cleanup

The Current River, a 184 mile spring-fed river is part of the Ozark National Scenic Riverway Eighty-six miles flow through Carter County and serves as the life blood and a mainstay of the region’s economy. Current River in Van Buren has 1.3 million visitors a year, who come for fishing, boating and other recreation opportunities. The park's popularity has come with a heavy toll through the destruction of vegetation severe erosion and pollution. In order to help combat this problem the AmeriCorps Senior RSVP volunteers will partner with the National Park Service to help maintain riverways. Volunteer opportunities are as needed with the biggest day being the September 11 Day of Service project held the second Saturday of the month.
